you cannot find an absolute guiding principle through thoughts. even if you do, you will have to constantly repeat it to yourself, remind yourself incessantly, and that is kinda weird. for ex, if you think "relationship matters" as your guiding principle, then you keep on bringing up that thought until something contradictory happens and it begins to no longer stand true. then perhaps you seek solace in a new thought, for ex. "work matters" and you go through the same set of repetitions until that begins to disintegrate and falsify itself.
if something is absolutely true, why need to repeat and bring it up constantly. hence thought is problematic.
it's useful only as a pointer to silence, which seems to have more rootedness if one is looking for a guiding principle.
